Continuing Legal Education

As attorneys licensed to practice law in the State of New York, we are required to complete at least 24 CLE credits per two year cycle. Details are available at the NYS Office of Court Administration website.

Whereas most agencies provide some CLE training in areas they consider relevant, you probably need to obtain additional credits elsewhere. If cost were no object, there are tons of providers.

Reality dictates otherwise, so you should first check out the NYC Law Department's listing of live and pre-recorded CLE courses (which are free). For more information, contact your agency's CLE Coordinator or call Corporation Counsel's JoAnne Burns at (212) 788-0307 or e-mail her at jburns@law.nyc.gov.

Another great source is Practising Law Institute ("PLI"), which generously subsidizes many courses for us.

CSBA hopes to become an accredited CLE provider soon, and seeks your input as to what courses you would like to see us offer as part of our general membership meetings. For course suggestions or to join our newly-formed CLE Committee, please contact us either by phone at 1-212-675-0519 or by e-mail at csbainfo@local237.org.

Newsflash: CSBA is offering our first-ever CLE class on Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Taught live, this is free to all CSBA members. The course is titled, "What Non-PI Lawyers should know about Personal Injury." It is co-sponsored with DC37's Municipal Employees Legal Services and provides 1.5 credits. Location: Local 237, 216 West 14th Street, New York, New York 10011.
